AP Language Narrative Examples

Below are some examples of mixed-mode narratives, most of which are scholastic award winners. As you read them, notice their narrative elements, how they use hooks, where they incorporate different modes and what those modes are, and also how they incorporate both common tropes (simile, metaphor, personification, etc.) and SCHEMES! (You will also be required to include and annotate several schemes in your narratives!)

These two are from last year–exactly the same assignment as yours:



This one is from several years ago. The assignment then was to choose one topic and do four different vignettes in different modes:


This one is not for this assignment at all. However, it is an excellent example. This one is a college app essay answering the prompt, “Describe a time in your life when you failed.”
